Job Description

In this role you are responsible for  the repair, improvement, and maintenance of plastic injection moulds. Your main function is to support production by completing work within the demands of the regular production schedule and perform regular scheduled preventative maintenance on tooling. You will also perform flash repairs and regular fitting of components and machine close tolerance components. You must fully understand the principles and construction of plastic injection moulds and be able to do in press repairs.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on plastic injection moulds with and without hot runner manifolds including disassembly, cleaning, inspection for damage or wear, emergency/scheduled repairs and re-assembly.
  • Verify conformance of repaired injection moulds or related tooling to specification by checking dimension, clearances and alignments using various test equipment, consistently working to close tolerances.
  • Support a just in time production environment with in press troubleshooting and repairs ensuring quality output and safe operation of tooling is met.
  • Fabricate mould inserts, mould components, fixture and tooling with and without engineering prints and 3-D CAD moulds using milling, turning, grinding, CNC sinker EDM and CNC milling machines
  • Utilizes CAD/CAM software such as MasterCam or Unigraphics
  • Comply with all safety requirements and instructions
  • Operate overhead crane and use rigging equipment to relocate moulds and components to specific workstations/areas
  • Data entry as necessary
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness within work area
  • Work cooperatively and communicate with manufacturing




  • Licensed Mould Maker - 431A
  • Minimum five years of experience in mould making and injection moulding field as a journeyman
  • Must be able to operate all common tool room machinery in a safe and productive manner
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Use of CAD/CAM systems preferably MasterCam
  • Applicant preferred to have a tooling maintenance background
  • Must possess good problem-solving skills to properly repair tooling and fixtures
  • Applicants with TIG welding skills would be preferred
  • Experience working inside injection moulding machines is an asset
  • Experience with various hot runner applications including valve gate systems
