Job Description

Protech Solutions is currently looking for several field service technicians to fill long-term positions with one of our clients in the railway sector located in Toronto. This opportunity within a well-known company offers several possibilities for advancement (team lead, supervising positions, etc.).

 

The field services technicians are the first line of interaction with operation and maintenance personnel at customer facilities. Their purpose is to ensure that the company products provided are fully operational and that passenger trains remain reliably in-service. The technician listens and responds to the customers’ concerns, and has the necessary skill and training to diagnose and solve problems with equipment working as part of a railcar system. Duties will be in a challenging electromechanical maintenance environment, and may include removal and replacement of parts on equipment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deep technical understanding of railway, public transport or automotive industries equipment (brakes, hvac, door systems) and related systems, and the corresponding ability to troubleshoot and fix equipment in the field (on or off a transit vehicle)
  • Respond to customer needs as instructed by the Field Service Manager.
  • Manage response and repair times as estimated for each assigned job. Complete tasks effectively in a timely manner.
  • Following training, possess the knowledge necessary to implement all field-related policies and procedures to represent the company appropriately.
  • Be prepared, mentally and physically, to respond quickly to field emergencies (including travel on very short notice for several days in a row)
  • Work with peers and sub-contractors effectively.
  • Interact with customer and communicate effectively.
  • Communicate regularly with Field Service Manager to address customer issues as well as with engineering staff to seek support or give feedback on existing product performance challenges, scheduling, and to provide feedback on the experience with the customer.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Hold a 2-year technical degree (post high-school) in the electrical/power electronics/electrotechnics field, mechanical field, automotive field or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of relevant technologies such as electronics, high voltage and high current applications, power supplies and electronic boards.
  • Comfortable working on retrofit and installation of new equipment, including the use of hand tools and both mechanical and electrical measurement equipment.
  • Sufficient working skills with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel);
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and or travel as required when timelines
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Teamwork abilities.
  • Strong leadership skills and result driven.
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken).
  • Able to read and understand mechanical and electrical blueprints.
  • Own a car and a valid driver's license.
